JeepClub Events

JeepClub aim to cater for all levels from the  beginner or 'newbie' in a road standard Jeep to those of great experience with modified vehicles. For the needs of those new to Jeep ownership we can give professional advice, tuition and support. Our events are beginner friendly and even at our rare hardcore off-roading activities or competitions we try to always make provision for 'Newbies'. Although our expertise centres around late-model Jeep vehicles - Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Commander, we have members with models right back to the original WW2 MB and all are welcome to our events. In fact, you don't even need to own a Jeep to be a JeepClub Member. We promote a safe and responsible attitude to off-road driving and exert no pressure on our members to tackle obstacles they do not feel comfortable with. Help and advice is available at every step and the key to the concept is the informal atmosphere.  As a service to members we also list events from other clubs and organisations.  These may not be suitable for those in unmodified vehicles or with less experience - If anything listed here is not a JeepClub event please check with the organisers to see if it is suitable before booking.

2000 Archive

  • West Harptree - Saturday 22nd January 2000
The West Harptree site is regularly used by both Jeep UK for their "Jeep Skills" days and the All Wheel Drive Club. It's quite technical in places, with plenty of axle twisters, but also more than its fair share of hills, rocky tracks and, oh yeah, mud. We'd set up a trial for people to have a go at. Unfortunately, over-night rain meant that driving through the gates in anything other than random order was pretty much impossible.
  • Horsham - Sunday 13th February 2000
We'd warned everyone that this site was likely to be very muddy this time of year. We weren't wrong....
  • Tuff Terrains Weekend - Saturday 11th March 2000
Our second visit to see off-road supremo Bernie at Tuff Terrains. The weather was, as usual, fantastic for the whole weekend and Bernie was on form.
  • Cleeve Hill - Saturday 1st April 2000
The Cleeve Hill site is well known for its steep hills and stunning views. As usual on our events, the weather was kind to us, as the rain managed to stay away for most of the day. However, some were keen to make the most of what water was available at the site.
  • Newbie Training - Sunday 14th May 2000
After a number of complications leading up to our Newbie Training event, everything went smoothly. In fact, we couldn't have improved things if we'd tried - the weather was truly incredible and the site proved to be as excellent as we had hoped.
  • Wessex Ridgeway - Saturday 20th May 2000
The first of this year's green-laning events was also to be an exploration of some routes we'd not used before. Together with typical sunny weather, it turned out to be a pleasant and relaxing day for all who came along.
  • West Harptree - Saturday 10th June 2000
At the end of a week that saw nothing but torrential rain, the Gods once again looked down upon JeepClub and smiled - Saturday was blessed with gorgeous sunshine throughout the day as was the barbie in the evening.
  • Parc de Marquenterre - Saturday 1st July 2000
Parc de Marquenterre is a 2,500 acre nature reserve, a maze of giant sand dunes and fir forest. It is described as one of the largest sites in Europe and provides sandy, non-damaging fun for all vehicle types. JeepClub sent over a small contingent.
  • Woodlands 4x4 - Sunday 2nd July 2000
Approximately 5 miles south of Brands Hatch, the site is set in 19 acres of dense forest, with views of beautiful countryside. The site comprises a circular scenic route around the perimeter suitable for beginners (white run), with nothing more challenging than a few muddy potholes. From several points around the perimeter, you can watch those testing their skills further on the red runs, designed for the more experienced off-roaders. If you're feeling more daring, you can try one of the black runs, suitable for those with modified vehicles, including the "graveyard" and "bombhole". This is a public 4x4 site so it was a chance to see other 4x4 vehicles in action.
  • Wessex Safari - Saturday 26th August 2000
Although the weather threatened to ruin our day, our Wessex Safari (an archaeological tour of the area) turned out to be blessed with perfect off-roading weather - rain the night before the event, but bright during it. It was even hot enough to wear shorts.
  • Tuff Terrains Advanced Training - Saturday 16th September 2000
Our third trip to see Bernie at Tuff Terrains was to form an Advanced Training course for the more experienced Club members. Even a fuel-crisis wasn't enough to keep some members away!
  • Wessex Safari - Sunday 22nd October 2000
Our second Wessex Safari this year. We weren't quite so lucky with the weather although it certainly made the off-roading conditions more interesting!
  • Exmoor Laning - Saturday 28th October 2000
Whilst we often complain about the British weather, it does make for excellent off-roading. Torrential (and horizontal) rain during the morning and bright sunshine in the afternoon led to some fantastic off-roading conditions. But more on that later.
  • Broxhead Common - Sunday 12th November 2000
Can you believe it? Several weeks of continuous rain, the worst recorded floods for over 200 years, but on the day the JeepClub crew arrange a day at Broxhead Common, we get bright sunshine and blue skies! We'd invited the Anorak Off-Road Club and some guys from the Wessex Hillrunners to come along as Broxhead is a favourite site for many.
  • Hants Laning - Saturday 25th November 2000
Our Hants Laning trip, intended to be an easy-going introduction to green-laning, became an impromptu introduction to green-lane clearing instead - the recent rough weather meant that a lot of trees needed to be cleared from the lanes first. Nevertheless, it fulfilled it's original purpose.
  • Hants Laning - Sunday 26th November 2000
The second day in our weekend of "Green-laning for Newbies" was blessed with much better weather than the first day.
  • Whitecliff Quarry - Saturday 2nd December 2000
Our last event of the year, Whitecliff Quarry is a 40-acre site in the beautiful surroundings of the Forest of Dean. The site is very similar to the now-closed High Frontier and is used by the site owners almost exclusively for driver training. We thought it would make a nice way to round off a successful year.
